Delia Walters and Matthew Sweeney
On June 6, 2007 the first two scholarships were awarded at Our Lady of Victory School. The recipients were carefully chosen by the Principal and Teachers based on the Foundation’s criteria for the award. The two candidates had to embody Quinnie’s sense of sportsmanship and fair play on and off the court.
The scholarships were awarded to Delia Walters and Matthew Sweeney. Both candidates received a beautiful plaque and a $1000 award. It was a great night for Kaitlyn and I. We knew that Quinnie had his hand in both of these choices. His Mom’s name was Delia, not a small coincidence and the last season that Quinnie coached boys CYO basketball, he coached with Pat Sweeney, Matthew’s dad. Both Matthew and Delia represent the kind of kids that Quinnie just loved. They were so happy and appreciative of the awards. I think for their families it was a very special night. I know it was for us.
We are very proud of both Delia and Matthew and congratulate them on behalf of everyone who worked so hard to make these scholarships happen. We wish them both only good things as they move on to High School. We know that they will make “Quinnie” proud.
