Memory-Kathy and John Maier

Favorite Quinnie Memory or Story

When our dear neighbors, the Shevlins, moved from 7 Hudson Road, we believed no one could replace them. Pat McNally, a neighbor and friend informed us that a family member had bought the house. His sister Kathleen, husband Steve, and daughter Kaitlyn would soon take up residence at the aforementioned address. We were thrilled as we had grown quite fond of the McNally clan. The Quinns swiftly became good neighbors and friends.

Steve and Kathleen kept a busy social calendar and loved to “sleep in” on Saturday mornings. That was until John Maier, the next door neighbor, bought a new toy . . . a leaf blower. John thought everyone began his day early and so he thoroughly enjoyed his leaf blowing sessions. Hudson Road remained quite pristine until Quinnie told John to find a new hobby. Little did John know that was the best advice he would ever receive because John has embraced a new hobby and can be found most early Saturday mornings hitting golf balls at the driving range. As a result, on a summer afternoon one would find Steve and John commiserating about their golf games on the not so pristine front lawn. The boys now shared a common foe . . . their handicaps.

John and I have joined in various celebrations with the Quinn family; whether it be Kaitlyn’s communion, graduation from high school, or block parties that spilled over into the Quinn’s backyard where all kept Mr. Coors in business. These occasions presented the perfect opportunity to showcase Quinnie’s quick wit and dry sense of humor.

I know I speak for many when I say Quinnie is missed. He was a devoted husband and father. His family courageously gets on with the business of living. Kaitlyn is a beautiful young woman as a result of Steve and Kathleen’s guidance. Everyone felt Quinnie’s presence at Kaitlyn’s shoulder as she eulogized her dad at the funeral mass. Kaitlyn gave us all a gift that morning when she shared a personal side of Quinnie we didn’t often see.

In closing, Steve was a lucky man. He had it all and he knew it. He counted his blessings every day. We should all take a chapter from Quinnie’s book.
