Favorite Quinnie Memory or Story
Every time Quinnie, Rich Rubio and myself went to the racetrack, Quinnie would only bet with his “homemade” system. That system required him to always bet the third ‘favorite” horse on the tote board (essentially the horse with the third shortest odds). Needless to say the third favorite horse historically wins only about 10% of time. I can remember Quinnie sticking with his system religiously each and every time we went to Aqueduct or Belmont. However, I still can’t remember him cashing a single winning ticket. I suspect to this day Quinnie had a negative weighting effect on that 10% number.
Favorite Quinnie Characteristic
The unrelenting sarcasim directed toward everyone and everybody. No one was spared. Especially Falls.
Memorable Trips, Events, Occasions, etc.
I still remember during a St Anastasia Baseball game vs. St. Mels in 10th grade, Quinnie hit probably the longest fly ball I had ever seen. Unfortunately for Steve, his counterpart left fielder was a wee bit faster than him, tracked the ball backward at lightspeed and made a reaching catch to rob him of likely the only chance he ever had at hitting a real Home Run.
Final Thoughts and Farewell
Quinnie will always be missed, but his spirit and the fond memories of all of us he touched will be with us for a lifetime.
