Memory-Jim Stock

Name & Relation to Quinnie

Jim “Jelly” Stock, Life-long friend

Favorite Quinnie Memory or Story

When were in seventh grade, 1970, in St. Anastasia School schoolyard, playing basketball. Quinnie threw the ball to me but I had my head turned and it hit me in the rear. It bounced a long way out of bounds. Surprised by the distance and velocity he said, “You’ve got a jelly ass”. He proceeded to call me “Jelly Ass” for a few days, but after some negotiating he agreed to drop the “ass” part. I’ve been “Jelly” ever since. Should I be grateful? He thought so.

Favorite Quinnie Characteristic

Quinnie had a unique way of sharing his opinions or feelings about a person’s actions or about a situation that he thought was wrong. He was direct in his approach and sometimes it was very insulting to the person he was chastising. That said, most times he was on target and he was usually able to back pedal enough to get away with it, even though he emphatically had made his point. I was the recipient on occasion and although I was really pissed off when he did it, after having a chance to reflect on what he said, I was usually in agreement. I admired him for this, because he kept his friends in check and expected them to do the same with him.

Memorable Trips, Events, Occasions, etc.

Annual JC Classic and the Annual McCarthy fishing trip. These were two occasions where he could be proud of his family.

Final Thoughts and Farewell

For the rest of my life whenever I hear someone say, “Is this the greatest ……, or what?”, I’ll think of him. This was his line for expressing total satisfaction. He used it often.

I love you Quinnie.
