Favorite Quinnie Memory or Story

There are so many, more than a few of which are not suitable to be repeated here. Fran Hurley’s bachelor party was held on a fishing boat. After an afternoon of fishing and drinking an occasional beer, things were getting ready to wind up. As we often did, we agreed to a friendly wager on who would catch the next fish before heading back to port. After a few minutes and no luck, Quinnie had to retire to the mens room and I was given strict instructions that if I caught a fish while he was away it didn’t count. I didn’t catch a fish, but I did raid someones (I forget who) bucket, grab the biggest fish I could find, hook it onto my line and drop it back into the water. Quinnie returned and by this point everyone on the boat except Quinnie knew what I was up to. After waiting about a minute I yelled “I got one” and started reeling it in as I watched Quinnie boil. When the fish broke the water and people began laughing, Quinnie was so pissed he didn’t notice the fish came up out of the water stiff as a board. He was extra pissed because he didn’t understand why it was so funny. As far as he knew people were laughing at the fact that he lost to me, not the fact that I had pulled the wool over his eyes. Later that evening I told him what I did (from a distance) and what he was most pissed about was that he didn’t think of it first.

Favorite Quinnie Characteristic

Our friendship over the years was built, in large part on friendly rivalries and competition. Quinnies competitive spirit is legendary and known to all who call him friend. However, it is not his competitive nature that defines him, it is his sense of fair play and honesty that he exhibited while competing that defined him. If it wasn’t fair, it wasn’t fun (except where I was involved). Whether we we’re golfing, or Quinnie was coaching or encouraging the countless kids who crossed his path, each of whom Quinnie made to feel special, the message was simple – Play fair, give it your all and no matter the outcome you were a winner. (Except for me of course)
Memorable Trips, Events, Occasions, etc.

Jan and I were fortunate to have gone on annual vacations with the Quinn’s since before we had kids. The anticipation as vacation time neared was truly like the night before Christmas. Many is the time that Quinnie and I would get together over a few beers to prepare and scheme for the damage we would do while on vacation. Eastover, where the families Padavano, Daly, Dumas, Fallon, McCarthy, Hurley, VanWort, Powers, Glubiak, O’Roarke and Quinn have gathered many years for drinks and laughs – oftentimes side splitting, is a place that will hold some of my most cherished memories of Quinnie.
Final Thoughts and Farewell

No matter a mans accomplishments or the status he attains, each man has a little kid in him. By the outpouring of love for Quinnie and his beautiful girls his accomplishments and status are second to none. He did have that little kid in him, as do I. Some would say we have more than our fair share. The man in me copes each day with the loss of Quinnie. The little kid in me is doesn’t understand, is confused and just wants his friend to come out and play. Until that day – I love you Quinnie.
